Discovering Adverbs
Ας δούμε αυτές τις προτάσεις:
The girl runs quick.
The girl runs quickly.
Which one sounds better?
The second one!
How does the girl run?
Quickly.
When we add -ly to adjectives, we create adverbs that tell us how something happens.
Examples:
slow→ slowly
happy → happily
careful → carefully

Activity 1: Use comparative or superlative form
  • she runs (quick )→ _______than her brother
  • She speaks (loud) → _______than her brother
  • Her room is (beautiful)→ _______ decorated than her brothers.
  • She sings (beautiful)→ ————in the whole class.
  • He works (careful)→————— of all students.
Just like adjectives, we can compare adverbs:
1
  • She sings more beautifully than her brother
  • He works more carefully than his friend
Rule:
Comparative form (comparing two things):
Add
more
before the adverb and
than
after the adverb
2
  • She sings the most beautifully of all her friends
  • He works the most carefully of all his classmates
Rule:
Superlative form (comparing three or more things):
Add
the most
before the adverb and
of/in
after it.

Using "as...as" for Comparisons
When two things are equal, we use "as...as":
John runs as fast as Tom.
She speaks as clearly as the teacher.
They work as quietly as mice.
This pattern helps us show that things are the same!
